I remember hearing a writer once say the period before the publication of a book is the calm before the calm. Still, I’m starting to get excited. I measure the Spring in sequence of blooms: crocus, daffodil, magnolia, tulip, azalea, cherry. This year, I can add: publication, book launch, reviews, festival. It has been a long, rough winter but by the time I have blossoms on the peony in the backyard, so much else will have already flowered.
In drafts of my first novel, I punctuated the sections with photographs taken in Israel and Palestine between 2008 and 2015. In the end, I didn't include the pictures, but I leave a few below as traces caught by my lens which once had a place in those pages.
